Born into humble beginnings in a suburb of London, Lady Vera was the daughter of George, who worked at the local electric company.  Growing up, Vera realized the benefits of the “do oneto others” rule.  She filled her early years with several volunteer positions.

At upper school, she was lucky enough to meet the man who would become her husband.

They were a perfect match, quirky humour and all.  But, wedding plans would be placed on hold!

Unsettling times came to Great Britain.  Her people were called upon to make great sacrifices.  Vera heeded her King’s calling and enlisted in the WRNS (Womens Royal Naval Service) and her sweetheart, the Royal Navy.  Unbeknownst to, and certainly again the wishes of his family, “Albert” enlisted, a full year too early, lying about being 18.  He would be sent half a world away into Asian waters.  After all, King and Country were at stake!
